Judicial Review Launched

A group of people have joined forces to launch a formal Judicial Review of the Draft Planning Policy PPS14, announced by Lord Rooker on 16th March.

Chief among their concerns is the prejudgement of the outcome of the consultation phase by applying the policy prematurely. This action is being taken partly as a result of lack of confidence that the Department of Regional Development will listen to the avalanche of objections that has resulted since the first announcement on March 16th. Anyone who has attended one of the 'official' DRD consultation evenings would recognise that far from being an open public consultation barriers were put in place such as requiring pre-registration. The Banbridge meeting on 15th May could hardly fill an observer with confidence that the panel were listening to the concerns of local farmers, businesspeople and individuals.

Given these circumstances, it has been decided that a "fighting fund" or £100,000 be raised to launch the legal action. It can be confirmed that legal proceedings are already underway. This group are hopeful for support from a number of bodies and private individuals. If you would like to lend your support please contact Liam Ward.
